Happy Republic Day – 75th Year in being

We, Indians are celebrating India’s 75th Republic Day today. ie. 26-January-2024

Today’s Kartavya Path parade highlights various tableaus that show India’s rich tradition, cultural heritage, spectacles of the nation’s progress and achievements and also airshows by the Indian Army, Indian Navy and Indian Air Force.

Dr BR Ambedkar, the chief architect of the Indian Constitution, had said, “Constitution is not a mere lawyers document, it is a vehicle of life and its spirit is always the spirit of Age” and to commemorate the adoption of this constitution of our country’ in 1950. Hence, the celebration of republic day.

The erstwhile govt’s motive for picking 26 January as Indian Republic Day is that on this very day in 1929, the statement of Indian Independence was declared (Purna Swaraj) by the Indian National Congress. The newly independent Constituent Assembly of India concluded the Constitution of India on 26 November 1949, under supervision of Dr. B R Ambedkar. Hence, this glorious act came into influence on 26 January 1950.

We should remember that the Constitution of India is a colossal record, which sets down techniques, powers, obligations, central privileges and order standards of the Public authority of India and Indian residents. The main rule of the Indian Constitution is “Of the people, For the people and By the people”; it signifies the power possession of the residents of India.

Republic Day denotes the celebration of the strengthening of Indian residents to choose their government. It is a public holiday which remembers the course of the foundation of the Indian Constitution.

Never Forget Our Heroes, who sacrificed their lives for India,
to bring up this glorious day, Happy Republic Day!!

Makar Sankranti, Uttarayan, Pongal, Lohri, Bihu

India has always been a land of diverse cultural identities. Every culture has its own festivals which are of great significance. A few such festivals like Lohri, Makar Sankranti, Pongal and Magh Bihu are celebrated in the month of January. Each of them has its own history and significance.

Lohri:

Lohri is an Indian festival of great traditional significance. It is celebrated a day before Makar Sankranti, where people pray and celebrate around a bonfire. The festival is primarily celebrated in the northern parts of India with great energy and spirit. It is also known as the ‘festival of harvest’, wherein farmers celebrate singing folk songs and mark the end of the sowing season.

Tales from Punjab mention the legend of Dulla Bhatti, a hero who led a rebellion against the Mughal Empire. His acts of bravery made him so famous in Punjab that almost every Lohri song mentions his name.

Makar Sankranti, Uttarayan, Pongal, Lohri, Magh Bihu in 2024
Makar Sankranti, Uttarayan, Pongal, Lohri, and Magh Bihu in 2024

Makar Sankranti, Uttarayan:

Makar Sankranti, also known as Maghi, is a Hindu festival which is celebrated across India in different cultural forms with great devotion and fervour. The festival marks the start of longer days and is usually celebrated in the second week of January. This festival marks the end of the winter and the start of longer days.

It is known by various names in different parts of the country. In Gujarat, it is also known as Uttarayan, the kite-flying festival. An all-mashed-up vegetable dish called ‘Undhiyo’ is prepared as part of the festivities, which also include bonfires, kite flying, and feasts.

Pongal:

Originated as a Dravidian harvest festival, which was celebrated as Thai Un and Thai Niradal, the history of Pongal dates back to around 2000 years.

Makar Sankranti is followed by Pongal, which is a four-day-long harvest festival celebrated in India and is associated with the tradition of crop harvesting. This festival usually falls in the month of January, when crops like rice, turmeric, and sugarcane are harvested. The festival is widely celebrated in Tamil Nadu.

This year, Pongal will be celebrated from January 14 to January 17, 2024.

According to a legend, Lord Shiva once asked his bull, Basava, to go to the earth and ask humans to have an oil massage and bath every day and to eat once a month. Basava mistakenly announced that Shiva has asked people to eat daily and have an oil massage and bath once a month. Enraged, Shiva banished Bavasa to live on earth forever. He would have to plough the fields to help people produce more food. Thus, this day is associated with cattle.

Bihu:

Magh Bihu is when the annual harvest takes place in Assam. People celebrate Rongali Bihu to mark the beginning of the Assamese New Year and the end of the harvest season.

Indian culture has its own festivals that have great significance in our lives. Be it freshness of Pongal, the fire of Lohri, the fervor of Uttarayan or Makar Sankranti, and festivity of Bihu.

May the spirit of festivals unite us in a happy, humble, and human way.

Michhami Dukkadam: The Profound Jain Festival of Forgiveness

Michhami Dukkadam is a significant festival celebrated by followers of Jainism.

Derived from the Prakrit language, the phrase “Michhami Dukkadam” translates to “I seek forgiveness” or “May all the evil I have done be forgiven.” This festival holds great spiritual and ethical importance in Jain culture.

During this time, Jains devote themselves to introspection and seek forgiveness from their family, friends, and even strangers. It is a time for self-reflection, personal growth, and nurturing relationships. Jains believe that by seeking forgiveness and forgiving others, one can attain inner peace and liberation from the cycle of birth and death.

Michhami Dukkadam
Michhami Dukkadam, Everyone. I seek forgiveness!!

The festival is typically celebrated on the last day of Paryushana, an eight or ten-day period of fasting and self-discipline for Jains. On this day, Jains visit temples, offer prayers, and participate in various rituals. They seek forgiveness from each other by saying “Michhami Dukkadam” and seek blessings for a harmonious life ahead.

Michhami Dukkadam is an expression of compassion, humility, and the desire to start anew. It encourages individuals to let go of grudges, conflicts, and negative emotions. By embracing forgiveness, Jains aim to cultivate love, peace, and unity within themselves and their communities.

This festival not only strengthens interpersonal relationships but also promotes ethical values such as non-violence, truthfulness, and non-possessiveness. It serves as a reminder of the importance of forgiveness in leading a virtuous and righteous life.

As Michhami Dukkadam is celebrated, Jains reflect on their past actions, seek forgiveness, and commit themselves to leading a more morally upright and compassionate existence. It is a time of renewal and a chance for individuals to embark on a journey of spiritual growth.

Observance and Rituals

Michhami Dukkadam is observed on the last day of Paryushana, an eight-day fasting and penance period during the Jain holy month of Bhadrapada (August to September). The festival encourages Jains to engage in acts of introspection, self-purification, and forgiveness.

Conclusion

Michhami Dukkadam stands as a powerful reminder of the core tenets of Jainism— ahimsa (non-violence), anekantavada (multiplicity of viewpoints), and aparigraha (non-attachment). It emphasizes the transformative potential of forgiveness and compassion in the journey towards spiritual enlightenment.

Through this festival, Jains reaffirm their commitment to these principles and inspire others to embrace the values of forgiveness, kindness, and harmony in their own lives.

Michhami Dukkadam serves as a beacon of hope and a call to introspection, urging individuals to let go of grudges, seek forgiveness, and nurture a world filled with empathy and love.

Happy Ganesh Chaturthi Wishes

Ganesh Chaturthi also known as Vinayak Chaturthi.

Ganeshotsav is a Hindu festival commemorating the birth of the Hindu god Ganesha. The festival is marked with the installation of Ganesha’s clay idols privately in homes and publicly on elaborate pandals.

Observances include chanting of Vedic hymns and Hindu texts, such as prayers and vrata Offerings and prasada from the daily prayers, that are distributed from the pandal to the community, include sweets such as modaka as it is believed to be a favourite of Ganesha.

The festival ends on the tenth day after the start, when the idol is carried in a public procession with music and group chanting, then immersed in a nearby body of water such as a river or sea, called visarjan on the day of Ananta Chaturdashi.

Happy Ganesh Chaturthi Wishes
Wishing everyone Happy Ganesh Chaturthi for 2023

In Mumbai alone, around 150,000 statues are immersed annually. Thereafter the clay idol dissolves, and Ganesha is believed to return to his celestial abode.

Although it is unknown when Ganesh Chaturthi was first observed, the festival has been publicly celebrated in Pune since the era of King Shivaji. The Peshwa in the 18th century were devotees of Ganesha and started as a public Ganesh festival in their capital city of Pune during the month of Bhadrapad.

After the start of the British Raj, the Ganesh festival lost state patronage and became a private family celebration in Maharashtra until its revival by Indian freedom fighter and social reformer Lokmanya Tilak.

Indian freedom fighter Bal Gangadhar Tilak, better known as Lokmanya Tilak championed it as a means to circumvent the colonial British government ban on Hindu gatherings through its anti-public assembly legislation in 1892.

The festival celebrates Ganesha as the God of New Beginnings and the Remover of Obstacles as well as the god of wisdom and intelligence and is observed throughout India, especially in the states such as Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Goa.

Ganesh Chaturthi is also observed in Nepal and by the Hindu diaspora elsewhere such as in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Singapore, Malaysia, Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana, Suriname, other parts of the Caribbean, Fiji, Mauritius, South Africa, the United States, and Europe.

In the Gregorian calendar, Ganesh Chaturthi falls between 22 August and 20 September every year.

Although it was unknown when or where Ganesh Chaturthi was first observed, the public celebration was initiated by Bal Gangadhar Tilak in Pune in the year 1893. At public venues, along with the reading of texts and group feasting, athletic and martial arts competitions are also held.

Also, it uses the second generation transmit beamforming technology incorporating Low End Sensitivity Improvements and Time Domain Channel Smoothing allowing data rates to increase for not only MU-MIMO clients, but for all existing ones as well.

The NWA210AX is not only efficient at delivering impressive speeds with its
smooth and consistent delivery to wireless clients, but it is also efficient on
power. The NWA210AX can deliver its impressive performance while keeping
the consumption of PoE within the PoE+ standard, so that you can enjoy the
latest WiFi 6 technology, experiencing first-hand the uncompromising multi-
gigabit speed when coupling without the need of re-cabling.

Few features of ZYXEL WiFi-6 Access Point:

  • Bringing next-generation Wi-Fi within reach:  Zyxel is a true Wi-Fi 6 access point that delivers faster performance and massive increased capacity, which along with unique Zyxel dual-optimized antenna technology, make the user experience even better. Apart from running at faster speed, the WiFi can also accommodate more client devices without any fall-off in speed, allowing an easy scale-up capacity to support hundreds of connections without increased latency.
  • Powerful performance with dual-optimized antenna: People without RF expertise may not realize that installing an AP optimized for ceiling-mount as wall-mount may cause the ceiling-mount radiation pattern to interfere with other devices up- or downstairs as well as to deliver signals with shorter-than-expected range for its clients. Designed with the innovative dual-optimized antenna, the WiFi adapts to both wall- and ceiling-mount installations. Thus, users can switch between the two optimized antenna modes easily to fit either situation. To boost Wi-Fi speeds for your network, the WiFi is definitely an excellent choice.
  • 4G / 5G cellular network coexistence: With the growing pervasiveness of mobile devices in the wireless network, users start to experience degraded performance, such as ping drops and high latency, however whenever user shutdown the mobile equipment, wireless service resumes working smooth. Thus, to enable 4G / 5G cellular network coexistence and minimize interference from 4G / 5G antennas or signal boosters, the WiFi has built-in 4G / 5G interference filters.
