World Earth Day April 22
This Earth Day, the World is One. The theme for this year is “Invest in the Planet”. This year marks the 53rd year of celebration.
All thanks to Senator G. Nelson, who proposed World Earth Day, in wake of 1969 oil spill in California, US. Every year on April 22, Earth Day provides people around the world with the opportunity to think again about the importance of protecting the global environment, each in their own way.
Humans have irrevocably upset the balance of nature and around 60 million species are undergoing extremely high extinction rate. If we do not act now, human beings would be facing the most enduring legacy of all time!!
The environment plays a significant role in determining the health of the planet. World Earth Day is observed to acknowledge climate change and spread awareness around the world regarding the same. The day urges people to come together and talk about major environmental issues such as water and air pollution, deforestation, and many more.
