As per mythological scriptures, on Dhanteras, people devotedly perform Lakshmi Puja in honor of the Goddess of wealth, stealth and health. ie. Maa Lakshmi.
The Goddess is offered “Naivaideya”, traditional offering consisting of dry fruits, white sweets et el. Devotional songs or bhajans are sung in praise of the mother.
Small footprints are drawn using liquid rice flour on red background, fondly called “Aipan”, indicating the long-awaited arrival of Goddess in our homes.
One of the most popular ritual followed till day, is the custom of purchasing metals, especially gold. It is long instilled belief, that buying gold on Dhanteras will always bring money, fortune, and good health, all year around.
