Brief Background about Independence

The British East India Company began its rule in India in 1757. Over the next century, the company expanded its control over the Indian subcontinent. Following the Indian Rebellion of 1857, the British Crown took direct control of India, marking the beginning of the British Raj. The struggle for independence gained momentum in the early 20th century. The movement was characterized by non-violent resistance and civil disobedience.

After lots of efforts, The Indian Independence Act was passed in British Parliament in July 1947, which led to India’s independence and marked the end of British Rule on August 15, 1947.
