Celebration of Ishti:
Ishti in other words is also recognized as “Anvadhan“. It is one of the most momentous events according to Hindu calendar, especially by the followers of Vaishnava Sampradaya. Anvadhan in Sanskrit refers to the ritual of adding fuel to keep the Sacred Havan burning. Ishti is the act of performing a ritual to fulfil a desire. Ishti in colloquial term means desire.
Anvadhan is observed before Ishti. On the day of Anvadhan, followers of Hinduism observe a fast all day long. And on the day of Ishti, followers perform Yajna. Ishti is a ritual that devotees perform for a short duration to pray for the fulfilment of their desires. It is like a ‘Havan‘ that lasts for a few hours, unlike those that last for an entire day, weeks, months, or years.
Vaishnava Sampradaya people perform Ishti observances to do virtuous deeds and solicit Lord Vishnu to obtain their desirable things. They observe the fasting ritual to honor their divine God, Vishnu. As per belief, if one performs homa on the day of Ishti, Vishnu will shower his blessings on them. Whatever one wishes, they will see the lights of fulfillment. Eventually, fasting on Ishti day brings peace and happiness to all.
